Worker Shot While Collecting Garbage In Westchester: Suspect At Large

Authorities are searching for a suspect who shot a public works employee in Westchester while they were collecting garbage.

The incident happened on Friday, July 7 just before 8:30 a.m., when Mount Vernon Police responded to the area of 50 North Terrace Ave. for a reported shooting, according to Mount Vernon Director of Communications Timothy Allen. 

Once officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found 25-year-old Daquan Moore, a Mount Vernon Department of Public Works employee, with gunshot wounds to both of his legs. Moore was then taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he is expected to make a full recovery. 

Through investigation, authorities learned that Moore and other DPW employees had been collecting garbage around the area of 132 North Terrace Avenue when an unknown person started shooting at them, hitting Moore. The suspect then ran away following the shooting. 

Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to call the Mount Vernon Police Detective Division at 914-665-2510 or submit an anonymous tip by texting it and "MVPD" to 847411.
